We're flying on the 2nd- our air freight is going on the 29th and our sea freight on the 30th. That gives us 3 nights and we've just realised we've got no plans for bedding etc. We're leaving our house furnished (no furniture being shipped, just contents).

DP reckons sleeping bags and takeaways but then we have to bring the sleeping bags on the plane which I am not thrilled about. Added complication in potentially needing to get rid of our mattress just before we leave as well. Argh!

Buy cheap sleeping bags and pillows and then give them to a homeless charity. No need to take them with you.

We went to family or hotels depending on where we were.

beautifulmonument · 23/03/2021 01:29

We stayed in furnished accommodation

Borogroves · 23/03/2021 03:48

We borrowed air beds and bedding.

ReggaetonLente · 23/03/2021 04:59

We stayed with my mum.

What are you doing the other side? Sea freight is taking a LONG time at the moment because of covid. We shipped on 21st dec and it didn't arrive (in Asia to be fair) til end of February.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 23/03/2021 05:35

We got a furnished Airbnb for the first six weeks while we looked for a long term rental. WE were going to Oz though so our freight took 8 weeks IIRC. Freight is taking ages to go anywhere at the minute though (my husband works in freight), so be wary of that.

Now I think we should have thought this through a bit more- the cat is not being rehomed until the day before we fly. Other end we are in furnished temporary for a bit- hoping the airfreight is swift and it's reasonably close by sea.

Think I'll book a hotel for the night before we fly though

Yes, we also stayed at a hotel. Our pets went to a family member a few days before we left our house.

bananabread2000 · 24/03/2021 01:51

My DH worked for a couple of weeks to finish up his contract and stayed in serviced apartments while I went and stayed with my mum. Then we stayed overnight with his dad before we flew out.

Ineedaneasteregg · 24/03/2021 01:55

Our pets have always moved before the packers arrive because the packers are so fast and busy that having the animals there wouldn't really work.

silentpool · 24/03/2021 02:20

Furnished accommodation. That lessened the stress. At the moment, stuff arriving at the other end will be a bigger concern as ReggaetonLente mentioned. My stuff shipped at the end of Nov/start of Dec and still has not been delivered....
