Moving (back) to Australia- should we?

DH and I are dual citizens, have lived here since post grad studies. Have good jobs and lovely home in London. DS is 7. We're low contact with parents for various reasons. We're from a provincial city in Aus, so no comparable jobs. Lots of friends though. We've never considered returning but are now thinking of it, primarily for DS long term if the economy is damaged by Brexit. Any thoughts? What would you do?

Firstly, I love Australia and go there on holiday/ for work every chance I get. But.....if you're primarily moving due to DS's "long term prospects" vs how he spends his childhood, I would not move now and let him decide when he's older. He won't be joining the workforce for probably 15 years, and the global economy is going to change a lot between now and then - it's hard to predict who will end up better off. Brexit is obviously not ideal but obviously the geopolitical situation in Asia is unlikely to favour Australia medium term, even as Asia will be the growth engine. I can see Australia getting somewhat economically sidelined if it doesn't play ball.

Op the difference in pandemic response will likely change after Aus has vaccinated population And here too - London will re open. So I’d not think about that as much as Brexit and general economic harms from last couple of years.

Would you move back to provincial town or choose a city?
