VPN advice/recommendations

Amazon have just told me that the videos I can watch on Prime will be severely restricted after Brexit. That and Netflix have kept me sane over lockdown so I'm considering a VPN. I've done some research but can't understand half the stuff on the reviews so I'd like some advice from someone who's been there. I'm in France.

We have used Nord VPN and worked well

LeGrandBleu · 28/12/2020 21:36

I have Psiphon free version on my phone and NordVpn paid version on computer/laptop

Thanks, that's two recommendations for Nord VPN so I will investigate that.

Express VPN worked very well for us, and the service was great - not Europe tho.

Hopeforhappiertimesahead · 29/12/2020 14:34

I would also recommend Nord

inTheLongGrass can you explain "not Europe"? I have just had a very stressful experience with ExpressVPN, I couldn't even connect to my actual location (France) nor any other. The online chat person tried to help me fix it but in the end it involved too many changes for my comfort - disable virus protection, use another browser etc. I responded that ExpressVPN is obviously not suitable for me because of my location and/or technical ineptitude. So then I tried to cancel my subscription (taken out yesterday) and get my money back. I even had to resort to the chat line again as the website did not want to give me that option. In the end I have been assured of a refund. I think I will have to bite the bullet, watch French prime and Netflix and read more books. I really can't face trying another provider.
My gut feeling that I wouldn't be able to manage this was obviously correct. No red flags but plenty of spidey senses to quote from the Relationships board.

Sorry, we weren't in Europe. So I cant vouch for how well it will deal with European restrictions, but it worked very well, for us, in the middle east.
Whenever a connection started being recognised, they very quickly added another connection - like the same day. I was very impressed. You have obviously had a very different experience. We used it for shopping, banking, Skype and Netflix.

I’m on Nord too, they’ve a deal on at the moment if you opt for the 2 year plan. If you go through Quidco you’ll get also get 56% cashback.

I use Nord, it's the only one I've found that works (most of the time) with Iplayer

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/01/2021 16:42

I have watchuktvabroad which works well. I’m (stuck) in U.K. at the moment. What has happened to Amazon Prime and Netflix?

thatwastheriver · 04/01/2021 12:21

Amazon prime is telling me "not available in your location" on most videos. Netflix doesn't seem to be affected, but I think that's because I am piggy-backing on my daughter's account in UK. I don't need a VPN to watch UK tv because our locality in France is covered by the UK satellite footprint (we are on the Channel coast). We can only use iplayer for radio, it would be nice for tv from the past, but I probably won't bother with a VPN just for Amazon prime. Must remember to cancel my subscription.
