Any mums based in RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus?

Hi! My partner has applied for a job in RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, if accepted we’re due to arrive in September. If not accepted this time then we’ll try again.
We both want to go as we need a bit of a change and a better outdoor life for our little girl who’s currently almost 13 months. If accepted we’ll also have to get married before we go, even though we’ve been together 6 years and have a little girl Shock
I was wondering if someone is already there and can give me some advice? It looks like a great life!

Any advice anyone can give I would really appreciate. I have so many questions!!

I can't help exactly but a good friend of mine returned from there last year and absolutely loved it. She brought her young kids up there and had what seemed to be an incredible life. I've never heard her say anything negative about it.

@Maggi20 I’ve applied for a job there that starts in April. Fingers crossed I get it! I’ve done lots of research and happy to chat if you want to PM me x

@Thehop oh good luck to you!! We’ve just found out that my partner’s application for Sept 2021 was unsuccessful, but there’s another one coming up for December 2021 so fingers crossed. I’ve done a bit of research too, and I just think it would be a great life for us as a family! My daughter I think would definitely have more of a social life there. Are you planning on taking your furniture with you? We’ve also got 4 pets we need to bring 😬

@Skala123 that sounds promising! My partner also knows a couple of people there too and they seem to love it!

@Maggi20 pets is the major stress at the moment! I’ve found a company that will fly the dogs out. I’m worried it will be too much for my 16 year old car and she will be better off staying with my Mil. Will be a wrench but I’ll take vets advice on what’s best for her.

I agree. I have children and they’ll have a much better life there, than in Yorkshire. Just will be so gutted if I don’t get it now!

The allowance for furniture isn’t huge, but seems that the bedroom furniture they put in is good so I may just take sofas and white goods. Apparently they’re double the cost over there.

Hello,

I know this is an old post, but it resonates so much with whats happening with myself and partner. He has just accepted a job in Cyprus. They say we have to be married due to immigration however, I am Cypriot, doesn't this change matters? I want to get married, we have been together for 8 years lol , but I really don't want to rush for a civil wedding and then get married again.. what a faff!

If it’s military it is because of your immigration status if you are going out as a military family and housing out there etc because I don’t know if you can get LTR surplus housing in Cyprus. If you are happy to private rent over there then you won’t need to get married if you are entitled to live there I wouldn’t have thought. But it’s going to be more expensive than getting a quarter out there. I know sometimes unmarried partners go out and private rent.
