Hello. I live in Jeddah with my husband and 4 year old daughter. We have been here for almost a year now and like everywhere it has it good points and bad points, but generally we have a good lifestyle over here. It is a very different way of life, there are restrictions such as women not being allowed to drive, no alcohol and shops etc being open at wierd times, but living on a compound is a bit like being in a small village, most of what you need on a day to day basis can be done there. We have a shop, restaurant, hairdresser, pools, tennis courts, playground etc and lots of activities arranged. For kids it is great, all their friends are close by, lots of opportunity to be out in the sunshine, and it is a very safe enclosed environment. Buses are usually laid on by the compound to schools and for shopping etc.
That is a very quick overview, if you have any specific questions ask away and I will try to answer. Good luck with the move!
