Anyone living in these communities that can shed more light on them? We are planning a move from the UK to Dubai and looking at places to buy in. These two communities really stood out, especially District One.

It would be good to know the pros and cons of living in these two areas. Are there other areas that we should be considering? I don't like The Palm so no recommendations for that please.

You want to buy straight out? It took me at least a year to work out which areas, villas, etc I liked best. Are you relying on an investor visa?

If you have the cash to upgrade a villa in meadows, it's perfectly placed. And schooling wise, re your other question, I'd look at JESS for primary.

And if you do end up wanting to switch schools, it's switch a roo city 😁 There's a lot of movement between schools every year as one or other falls in and out of favour. I wouldn't put yourself under pressure to pick the "perfect" school.

Personally though, I wouldn't touch gems at all, especially how they have dealt with remote learning and fees (look at Twitter).

Thank you @FluffyEarMuffs! Very helpful. Yes thinking of buying outright. My husband is opening an office in the ME - not sure which kind of visa it is.

I have not heard of the meadows - will take a look. Do you have any insight on district one? In pictures it looks amazing! The houses overlooking the lagoon look so beautiful!

We have heard JESS is really good as well as Kings. Are there any others we should be considering? What about NAS? Repton? Any information you have on these?

I definitely wouldn't buy straight out. School location can make a huge difference to where you choose to live. Emirates Hills is lovely, but not much use if you want your child to go to DESS or JESS. District One will be super in due course but for now the area is a building site.

If you have such a healthy budget you might also like Jumeirah Islands or the larger properties in Arabian Ranches or Green Community.

I wouldn't buy in the UAE at all, your entitlement to residence can be terminated overnight and then all your capital is tied up in a property you can't live in and will probably struggle to sell. There is a massive oversupply and they are predicting that the economy won't recover until 2023 and that 10% of the expat population will leave.
