Hi All

We are moving to Muscat Oman over Easter. My husband has already moved and we can’t wait to join him . I have three children aged 13, 10 and 6 , who will be going to The British School . At the moment I am busy decluttering and emptying the house ready for rental . Anyone out there want to join the thread to share experiences ? X

I am also moving in April 2020 to Kuwait! All starting to get very real now. Have listed some furniture for sale on Facebook today but need to start decluttering and getting the house ready for rental too!

I feel your pain . I’ve been busy doing charity runs, a skip arrives next week too . It seems really scary especially as I finish work on 31 March .

You are doing great!
It WILL all come together, but will probably look worse before you get to that point.

Very jealous of your new home, @Kiranw. Sorry, @tiutinkerbell, I'm not so enamored with your final destination. It will be fab tho.

Can I recomend taking a box of Brotish or English stuff. I can practically guarentee the school will have an international day, and an England/Scotland/Wales teeshirt will be most useful!

@KittenVsBox thanks really looking forward to the new adventure, but my To Do list is so long 😝 I know it will all be worth it though . Have you been to Muscat ? Good too on the England T Shirt ... they have football tops 😎. @tiutinkerbell hope everything is going to plan... I like to say to myself it will all be worth it when we are out in the sun ☀️

We lived in Saudi for 5 years, and yes, we visited Muscat. Very fond memories of the place and the people. I also know a family who moved to Muscat maybe 3 years ago, and are loving it.

Kiranw · 04/03/2020 07:06

@KittenVsBox wow my husband was in Saudi from 3.5 years . We chose not to join him . Hope you guys enjoyed x

@Kiranw you too - how is it all going? I have just sold my dining table this morning so it's a bit strange having bits of my furniture missing already. I have written lists about what to ship, chuck & sell but haven't really done too much actually about it yet.

@KittenVsBox that's OK - I am quite enamoured with the place myself luckily :) but I have a good social circle out there already and a big oppertunity to compete in the hobby that I can't devote much time to over here so I am excited!

Hi did you move ? We are still in the U.K. due to Covid . Hoping to move in August 🙏

Hi can I join this thread? We are meant to move to Singapore in August. Been really hard to prepare to move due to lockdown but hopefully we can start to get workmen in to get house in a rentable state!

Good luck to everyone who's moving too - couldn't think of a worse time to do it! But I'm sure it'll work out :)

Kiranw · 11/06/2020 06:13

@mrsduff yes on course . I keep on saying to my say what will be will be . If it’s meant to be it’s meant to be .

I am still in the UK as well :(! Hoping to move in August but still no real information on whether I will be allowed to enter the country or not.

mrsduff · 11/06/2020 10:26

we don't have a date either as to when we can get visas etc. so it may be that my husband goes out in August, and I follow with the children once the house is rented out etc. It feels too rushed to get us all out there otherwise. Totally agree with the sentiment 'what will be will be' - there's no point stressing about it...

What worries me most is how likely it is we can rent our house out - we bought a doer upper, and then decided to move before we did it up!

Kiranw · 11/06/2020 11:42

Same here we have no date ... the children are meant to be starting their new schools in September , so hoping for August . My husband is already out there .

@mrsduff how is your move going? I’m moving to SP on Monday.

Kiranw · 02/07/2020 21:52

Move is going no where !! Borders are closed ! Good luck for Monday ! How exciting x

tiutinkerbell · 03/07/2020 09:24

I am leaving on the 2nd September now - hopefully!

mrsduff · 05/07/2020 09:49

@Binkybix oh wow Monday - good luck! Hope all goes well!

We decided that my husband and DD 12 would go out at end July and me and DS 8 will join them end September. It would have been too much of a rush to get ourselves sorted for the move otherwise but its going to be strange to be apart for 2 months...

I'm just so relieved there's flights out there and visas being processed!

How exciting you'll be there soon. Let me know how it works out on the flight re social distancing etc?

Binkybix · 05/07/2020 10:17

@mrsduff defo will. Where will you be living btw?

mrsduff · 05/07/2020 12:27

we're in serviced apartments when we arrive just off Orchard Road (after quarantine) but after that.. not sure yet. but at least this way we can look for an apartment when we are there.

How about you?

Binkybix · 12/07/2020 04:45

@mrsduff we are in an estate called Medway. In SHN at the moment so not doing that much at the moment.

Flight was fine - very very empty!

Binkybix · 12/07/2020 04:46

Orchard road lovely and central! We are. About more residential than I’m used to (live central London) but part of this move was trying out different stuff.

mrsduff · 13/07/2020 10:08

Ah congratulations on the move and getting out there!! My husband's employment pass came through today, and I'm hoping we can come out in August now rather than October as planned.

Hope all is going well as you settle in. Our kids will be going to Tanglin so we'll probably find a condo in that vicinity..

will you be working while you are out there? Next thing on my list is to find a job!

Binkybix · 14/07/2020 08:51

I hope to work but don’t have any leads at the moment. Ours are in Dulwich but a lot of people in the estate here have kids in Tanglin.

Good luck getting permission to arrive etc and fingers crossed for you.
