Moving abroad, where do I start?

If everything goes well and I get the job we are moving to Austria in a few months. I'm totally daunted by organising the move, finding somewhere to rent and letting out our house, all in a short space of time.
Does anyone have any advice or can point me to blogs or other resources about international moves? Where do I even start?
Many thanks!

Can you ask the company hiring you for a relocation agent?
For renting your house out I would suggest a letting agent, fully managed service about 10% fees. There are a lot of new bits of legislation coming out and a decent agent will make sure your house is compliant and manage any issues that come up.

Take a look here

The first thing is to start getting rid of stuff you no longer need, that starts now. Research the letting system where you are going (it varies so much around the world) and find a letting agent for your house plus a storage company if required. Once it's confirmed you will need to fly over and find a place to live, meanwhile just book movers, it's similar to moving in country.

Ps I did transatlantic, that's harder because shipping took 4 months!

Have a search on Facebook for groups associated with Austria.
Examples might be Expats in Austria (expats in German group is quite large)
Etc etc.
follow the British Embassy.
Sign up for living in Austria on Gov.uk

Thanks for your advice, I did indeed get the job and we are moving in April.
Currently decluttering because we have a LOT of stuff.
Luckily my family is in Austria and they are helping me find a flat as we speak.
I'm contacting letting agents and moving companies this week.

As others have said, so your research on visa requirements, age restrictions, possibility or renewing any visas and living costs.

Paperplain · 18/02/2020 00:46

Oh ha, Austria and not Australia! Sorry and good luck with the move.

@Paperplain Grin no worries! It happens all the time!
