I hope to take the next academic year off my teaching job in order to go and spend a year living in France with DD age 7. I'm trying to work out where to go. I want somewhere cycle friendly, with a pleasant climate, coastal and not too far away from airports. I don't want to live in a large city, I'd much prefer a large village or small town. I speak French and DD has some French too. I intend to send her to a French primary school. We have Irish passports, so the impact of Brexit isn't a concern. I've been thinking of the la Rochelle area- any opinions on that?
I'd really appreciate your input if you have any suggestions or ideas. Thank you in advance.

La Rochelle is lovely but can be very touristy. We live in the Charente in a small village but 15 mins from 2 larger towns. My DDs were very competent french speakers in 6 months, pretty fluent by 12. I’d go for it, I’ve found the schooling very good here. It’s quite old fashioned (1950s UK) but that works for my girls.

pretty much anyhere along the west / south coasts from Nantes down sounds like it would fit the bill.
