Advice for trailing spouse

Trailing spouse - an unpleasant expression.

I would very much like any tips on life abroad when you're the only one without work / school.

So, ten days ago, Dh, 4 dcs, 4 dogs, 4 cats and I all moved to Luxembourg City. All good so far.

Dcs all in school. Dh has his job.

I'm still unpacking. I'm thinking about enrolling in language courses. Going to school events etc. But what else?

I'm finding it mentally tiring.

Is this your first time as an ex-pat? Its a lot better than many other places to relocate to.

Have you looked into seeing if you can work or not? Or can you use your skills to volunteer at all

How about the gym?

Or are there any ex-pat clubs in the area, not for everyone I know but just to meet up and get a few ideas about local things going on, best shops for certain items, bakers, butchers etc. Gets you talking to others in your area.

Check out cinemas, coffee shops, library (may also have reading groups and so on) local swimming pool for the kids

Do you need to do any decorating or buying new furnishings, curtains etc.

Just a few things off the top of my head, its hard at first and yes it can be exhausting.

I'd suggest giving yourself a bit more time to adjust, you've just moved countries, not just houses, of course you're mentally (and possibly physically too!) tired!

Yes. You're right. I am just worried that in six months I will still be unpacking and bored! 😁

Main thing with unpacking I found was to treat it as a 'job' and do a set amount each day - whether that's by time, room, or number of boxes. Before you know it, it's done!
