What insurance - help! Bit urgent!

Hoping someone can help. Dd leaves for a job in Hong Kong in a couple of days and has just realised she hasn't sorted any insurance. She's asked me to sort it because of course she's on holiday 🙄
She will get insurance through her job after 3m (I'm guessing this is health insurance) so what kind of thing should I be looking for do you reckon. I'm overwhelmed with loads of other stuff going on and it's like my brain can't engage.

i would have a look here. you can choose how long the plan covers you for (so in this case 3 months), and if you selected the basic plan you are covered for Emergency medical expenses overseas up to £5,000,000, emergency dental treatment up to £300, up to £300 to get a new passport should you loose the old one and more.

If she’s going for a permanent or long term job then I would check ‘Travel’ insurance is suitable she’s not actually travelling. The link above says it’s for Uk residents - so if she’s living in HKG then she may be classified as a resident there - you’d need to check.

The trouble is that a local insurance might not provide for repatriation to the uk if thats what you’re after , so i guess you’d need some sort of ex pat insurance. Sorry I’ve no idea where you’d get that from.

Name changed as identifying but I just purchased a policy from this company for this exact situation - cover for an move abroad until full residency and employer medical becomes valid. Normal travel insurance often isn't sufficient as you cease to be UK resident and don't have a return ticket.
