Living in the Caribbean when you don't like the beach!

This is partly to introduce myself and partly to find people in the same position...

I came out to a city in the Caribbean about three years ago and met my DP through mutual friends. After a month long visit the year after and then one year of a long distance relationship, I decided to move here to be with him.

I am halfway through a two year work contract and plan to return to the UK at the end with my DP on a non-married spouse visa.

However I had no idea how difficult the job situation is here for people! My DP has temped inconsistently through this year and still not found anything permanent. This means we have no money to travel and the only thing we have to do is go to the beach.

I am not a beach bunny and my family and friends always ask me why I'm so white haha. I find the lack of cultural diversity a bit monotonous and have struggled to make local friends so feel v homesick at the moment.

Anyone in a similar position?
Thanks for reading Smile

What island are you on? Do you have a car?

I haven't lived there but have spent a lot of time in the Caribbean
