Just thought I would let folks know. I guess Canada just wasn't for us. We're a little confused right now.

BandofMuggles · 14/07/2007 08:04

Why didn't you like it???
And how come you weren't online over there??[nosy]

DaddyCool · 14/07/2007 08:04

it worked out nicely.... we just decided we like the UK better. No so sure. I think we like the both the same and are having a very hard time coming to a final final decision.

I was online but I haven't been on line for ages. We've only just got our broadband sorted out at my PIL's. We came back mid June.

how long did ya live there for? i believe Canada is a beautiful place

DaddyCool · 14/07/2007 08:06

One year. I'm Canadian so it was an easy process.

We found it very dull.

So you might be going back again???
Must be loads cheaper over there.
If you like them both the same you could right a pros and cons list and see which one wins

DaddyCool · 14/07/2007 08:08

Nuneaton!? No!? Good lord no. We've never lived in Nuneaton... But we do live in the Midlands.

OP posts:
Biglips · 14/07/2007 08:08

why dull?

soz for all these questions??!

DaddyCool · 14/07/2007 08:09

pros and cons list? Done many of them. It's impossible.

Houses, petrol and appliances are cheaper. Everything else is more expensive surprisingly enough. Grocery food is loads more expensive.

hard to say biglips. We had everything. I had a good job locally, we lived five minutes walk from a big beach on lake ontario, my son was well settled, i was skiing after work in the winter and meeting ds and dw on the beach in the winter... it just had this underlying dullness that I just couldn't get over.

OP posts:
DaddyCool · 14/07/2007 08:11

summer even. meeting them on the beach in the summer.

OP posts:
DaddyCool · 14/07/2007 08:12

.... and everything had a sting in the tail. Houses are a lot cheaper but wages are also loads less and there equiv. to council tax is much more expensive (about double)

suzywong · 14/07/2007 08:21

yeah, yeah, yeah whatever, but did you catch up with Steven Shitlands?

DaddyCool · 14/07/2007 08:24

No. I never really liked him anyway. LOL

welcome back
i wrestle with this always - moving back or staying. it's such a hard one. I'd be happy, but not sure dh would be. but I'm not really happy here tho - am having trouble with it all at the moment. it's the strong pull of family for me that dh just doesnt' have.

taxes, property prices, food - they're all expensive
but omg, the SPACE

hey, good to see you back!

you now get to live a life constantly debating the relative merits of each country (I still do it, despite being back in the UK now for almost 8 years) !

Carmione · 14/07/2007 09:12

Welcome back to Blighty DC

MarsLady · 14/07/2007 09:31

Welcome back!

Sorry it wasn't for you

But at least you know and at least you went!

3cats2kidsand1dog · 14/07/2007 10:18

Welcome back to MN.

How did the move go? Do you think you'll stay in the UK? Has much changed since you were in Canada?

Actually, I liked the sound of winter days on the beach .

bobsmum · 14/07/2007 10:19

There's a nice juicy 4x4 thread looking for attention atm

Budababe · 14/07/2007 10:23

Assumed you were having such a great time you didn't have time to MN anymore!

Sorry it didn't work out.

christie1 · 18/07/2007 21:02

welcome back. I am going in the opposite direction, back to canada in august. Mixed feelings of course but all in all, feel the decision is right. DH did look for jobs here and came close a few times but no takers. For me, I am happy to go home and buy a house. We have decided though, to keep up our UK connection by comming over often and maybe even buying ourselves a property here once we get some kids out of the house. For what it is worth, although Canada will miss you, your heart is in the UK. Just come and visit us in canada often!
