Easter eggs in the US

chemenger · 06/04/2019 22:58

Am I not looking in the right places or does the US not do large chocolate Easter eggs? I’m only just recovering from them not really doing chocolate advent calendars,.

I lived in the US in the early 90s and they definitely didn't do them then, just "candy" (which I can't stand, I like proper chocolate !)

I used to come home and stock up on Cadburys creme eggs & proper Easter eggs (but of course, that was before Cadburys ruined it all, I wouldn't bother now !)

sashadasher · 06/04/2019 23:19

Try hotel chocolat, I'm sure they have branched out and are now available in the states. They are quite pricey but the chocolate is the best ever, super quality. Their Easter eggs are super thick!!!

Linnet · 06/04/2019 23:23

They don’t seem to do them like we do. My dd took a photo of the whole Easter aisle in Tesco to send to her friend in Virginia as she didn’t know what dd was talking about when she asked which egg she was getting for Easter. They seem to do egg hunts from the Easter bunny rather than big chocolate eggs. Dds friend sometimes gets an Easter hamper which has a chocolate bunny and lots of little chocolate eggs.

There are plenty of good choices for chocolate easter eggs here.

22 Best Chocolate Eggs to Fill Your Easter Basket This Year

Try the Ghirardelli's first, they're fabulous.

TansyViola · 07/04/2019 00:40

Looking at that link it looks like they mostly have small ones. The top one looks large though op and nice

QueenEhlana · 07/04/2019 00:42

US is rubbish for Easter eggs, UK is pretty good. Australia is absolutely amazing! Sooo many eggs, rabbits, etc. Absolute heaven!!!

chemenger · 07/04/2019 01:34

I looked at the Good Housekeeping link above. Only the first one is a “proper” egg, and it’s sold out. The rest are teeny tiny eggs or not eggs at all. It looks like Hotel Chocolate option is the best bet.

No they don't really do eggs, if you are in a major city you can probably track some down, otherwise I would get family to post.

OpalsAreForever · 07/04/2019 02:07

I found some today in Walmart. Small ones akin to the £1 ones you get in Tesco. Only snickers, m&ms and something else but I was like "look everyone!" "proper British Easter Eggs!". No one else batters an eyelid. I was seriously excited!

peepholepringle · 07/04/2019 02:10

I placed an order online with Hotel Chocolat but I saw a Lindt egg in Walmart and I've also seen a few plain eggs in TJ Maxx and Homegoods.

HerRoyalNotness · 07/04/2019 02:12

They don’t really. The best we get is the Lindt bunnies at the supermarket. I did see hollow eggs at walmart this year. Otherwise if you have a British shop near you they may stock some. Or try world market or fiesta, they have loads of British stuff

VimFuego101 · 07/04/2019 02:16

They do Easter candy but not really Easter eggs. Where abouts are you? I am in MI and Plum Market and a small Scottish shop called Acroyds (they do mail order). Bed Bath and Beyond might have them too.

Kescilly · 07/04/2019 02:32

The big chocolate eggs aren’t a thing in the States. We always had Easter baskets full of toys and lots of different candies/chocolates. Along with Easter egg hunts where there were more chocolates/toys inside.

I’m surprised you couldn’t find any chocolate advent calendars though, those I remember having!

chemenger · 07/04/2019 02:39

I’m in Boston, I’m going to investigate the Italian shops in the north end, they have big displays of Easter stuff, but I’m not sure about eggs. I did notice white chocolate lamb but didn’t look for eggs because I didn’t realise I couldn’t just go to CVS, the shop that sells everything.

We live in Switzerland. Imagine my kids’ disappointment when, after joining in a local EE Hunt in a park, they discovered that the eggs they’d found were hard boiled ones and not a sniff of chocolate one in sight!!!

Chocolate EEs are in the shops though. Mainly little tiny ones (ie mini egg size) and the big ones are v expensive.

LadyB49 · 07/04/2019 02:50

I send chocolate easter eggs over to dgc in the US. I also send ds 4 cans of Iron Brew via Amazon. It costs about £11 but is a glorious present.

chemenger · 07/04/2019 02:54

I was at a St Andrews Day event here where a woman from Glasgow won a case of Irn Bru (proper stuff with sugar), seldom have I seen anyone so delighted. I have just received the gift of a jar of Branson pickle to much the same effect.

OP posts:
Kescilly · 07/04/2019 03:07

They sell Branston pickle in World Market, if you have one near you.

SeaToSki · 07/04/2019 03:11

I thought I saw some in William Sonoma, but they might have been sneaky photos that made them look big. Otherwise try Marshalls and Home Goods, you might get lucky. But basically, no the NorthEast US doesnt do big Easter eggs at all, and its really disappointing.

Actually try Amazon, they might, and amazon uk will ship some stuff direct to the US

scotx · 07/04/2019 05:09

Have you looked at British Corner Shop? I've ordered from them a few times for Christmas goodies and would recommend.

Good, locally made chocolate, too. Pricey, but yum.

cherryblossomgin · 07/04/2019 06:37

Amazon have a few large ones that ship to the US that I could see.

LadyB49 · 07/04/2019 06:41

To send to the US you use Amazon.com not Amazon.co.uk.
