Easter eggs in the US

Am I not looking in the right places or does the US not do large chocolate Easter eggs? I’m only just recovering from them not really doing chocolate advent calendars,.

chemenger. the butcher shop in Dorchester (adams st) does really good meat too - proper ham you can cook yourself for Easter, really good lamb (good stuff really hard to find still), proper homemade sausages, good beef. Also home made black pudding. It is worth the trip. The bakery next door has very decent bread (not too sweet) too. It is Irish focused rather than English but there is a significant overlap in tastes!

We always used to get a Sees Easter Egg or choc bunny when we were little. Their chocolate is pretty good.

It's not part of the Easter tradition in the US. If you travel across Europe over Easter you find they eat different things in different countries as well. I guess because we all speak English people sometimes assume what you find in UK will be in the US/Canada/Australia etc. Not the case.

Traditional US Easter sweets are:

  • jellybeans
  • mini chocolate eggs (e.g. Reese's)
  • Creme eggs (but made in the US so not as tasty as the original British recipe)
  • Peeps - marshmallow baby chicks (which are disgusting IMO but popular)

In the UK chocolate is linked with Christmas and Easter, whereas in the US the main chocolate holidays are Valentine's Day and Halloween.

I think checking out the Italian stores is a good idea. There's one in our city that stocks large Easter eggs - but you have to grab them while they're in stock. I saw them on display last year, thought I'd return in a week to buy one, and they were sold out! Sad Go now!

You can plenty of smaller type ones. But large eggs in a box with a couple of bars with it - nope!
I don’t mind the selection here to be honest, but I took my kids to a local British shop to pick out a proper English Easter egg. One picked a smarties and one a Mars. I got. Galaxy. The 3 eggs cost $30!

They also have them on British Corner Shop to order.
