Anyone got any opinions on here? We’re looking to move out next year with our four DC (three primary school aged, one 3yrs old by the time we move). They’re currently at a wonderful primary here and the education in Germany is a big factor in our decision to move or not.

We don’t want to put the elder two into the German system since we worry their education would suffer whilst they get to grips with the language (they currently speak none). The younger two we’d consider putting into Kindergarten/Grundschule although having them at different schools isn’t appealing. However we do want them to learn German and not only socialise with other English speakers (I’m a fluent German speaker so also want this for myself).

We’d be paying ourselves since it’d be a permanent move out there, but DH’s package would be enough to cover this.

Any views or opinions very much welcomed. Thanks.

I went there! It was very lovely and some of the people I went to school with have sent their own kids there too. It's expanded alot since my day but I hear good things.

Oh and there were (and still are) loads of German local families using the school. Starnberg is a bit like Kinghtsbride on a lake.

We moved to Munich nearly two years ago with children who spoke no German. We put them into regular school (one at Grundschule and one into Kindergarten). If you would like to hear about the alternative to International school and our experience so far, please send me a PM and I can go through our experience.

I know this is an old thread, but did you find a school you liked? We have moved from London to Munich with two toddlers in local nursery/kindergarten. We are looking at a he British international, Schorndorf (day boarding & non private schools). How have you settled into Munich any tips would be welcome.

Sorry I know this is from last year. I would be very interested in your experience with schools here. Please could you maybe PM me. We have moved from London to Munich where my husband is originally from. I’m just trying to get an idea of schools & life here.
Many thanks

Thank you that’s good to know. A friend has her two girls there (German natives) and really likes it. Deciding between non private schools, St. George’s & Schorndorf. Any tips with kids welcome.

Hello everyone, We are exploring the possibility of our daughter attending the MIC Gymnasium starting in 9th grade in the 2025-2026 academic year or 10th grade 2026 - 2027 academic year. Given her limited German proficiency, I would like to know if MIS school offers German language instruction or support for students in her situation. Sophie is a dual citizen of the US and the EU, but she only began learning German in April.

Do you know if MIS offers a hostel or boarding facilities, or if you arrange host families for students?

Sophie is a very passionate violinist with a wide range of interests, including horseback riding, skiing, drawing, gardening, singing, hiking, and swimming. She is bilingual, speaking both English and Romanian fluently, and currently takes violin lessons with an amazing violin teacher in Munich, online and in person. She is currently 14 years old and completing 8th grade.

We currently live in NY.
