My husband and I have been married for a year but together for 9 years and he’s been in the army almost the whole time. I’ve found myself in between jobs and he’s due a new posting so thought it would be a good time to take a posting abroad as the chance has arisen.
This is all very exciting, however, it is new territory for both of us: we’ve never lived on camp together and we’ve always lived together in our civilian home, very much at a distance from army life.
I was hoping anyone on here would be able to give me a bit of an insight into what I am to expect and some advice about the process. We’ve read documentation from the army but have very little else to go on.
The posting is in Cyprus (I believe Episkopi) - can anyone give an insight into what it’s like there? We’d be moving with our two dogs - any advice about the process? How smoothly is the packing/ moving process? Any tips? Did you store anything in the UK or did you take it all? I’m out of work but I’m a qualified teacher - what are the chances of work over there for me (teaching and otherwise)? What the community like? Are there any bumps I can be sure to expect/ anything I should be aware of? What is the housing like? What happens when the husbands go away? Are there many socialising operatunities? Would I be a minority as I have no kids? We are thinking of starting a family soon so maybe out there.
These are just a few of the millions of thoughts going through my head day to day. If anyone can give any insight or advice on any of them, I’d be really grateful!
