I moved to Melb 3 weeks ago and need to start getting out and about. I am Australian but have spent the past 10yrs in London. I am feeling really foreign here now!!

Anyway I'd be happy to meet up with anyone for tea and cake, I have a car and satnav!! My DD is 3yo and I am 5mths pregnant. I don't work either, well out of the house anyway.

It is tricky trying to write/word this without sounding like a "billy no mates" but hey whatever..... if the shoe fits.

Hi Superloopy, ghosty here ...

Sibble emailed me ... she's a cheeky moo saying I am billy few mates ...sibble, I'll have you know I have just been having a glass of wine with a new friend

Where do are you living? We are in Ivanhoe so pretty central and I am absolutely deffo up for coffee and cake ... I have a DS who is 7 in Grade 2 at school and a DD who is 3 who is in the market for a little friend of her own age (she is missing her best friend in NZ).
At the moment we are in the middle of school holidays so juggling a 7 year old and a 3 year old is a bit of a challenge but as soon as DS goes back I am footloose and fancy free
Oh, and we are originally from the UK but were in New Zealand for 5 years before moving here in April ....
There are a couple more MNers here: Melbournemum (who I have met and is lovely) and DCnatchHill (who I haven't met but we are planning to meet in the near future - she is lovely too)

ghosty · 06/07/2007 11:10

Sorry for dreadful mistakes in my message ... just all of a dither

ghosty · 06/07/2007 11:11

And I don't dare go anywhere near St Kilda for fear of dragonlike Emil of Cf's ... I'd rather get a tiger snake as a pet

Hi ghosty nice to hear from you. We are out at Point Cook but it doesn't take long to get into town.

I would love to meet up, it would be fab for DD to have a little friend. If you name the place we can be there. After the holidays is good for us too.

Maybe if any of the others are free we could all meet up?

I will def be in touch again soon but need to get to bed.

Hi superloopy ... where is Point Cook? I am hopeless with melbourne geography still ...
Mondays and Tuesdays are good days for us usually ...
My email address is ghostyandmeg(at)bigpond(dot)com

Drop me a line and we can sort something out

MelbourneMum was around on MN the other day ... I sent her an email but she didn't reply yet

She lives somewhere in the Brighton/Sandringham area I believe ... but don't quote me on that.

Hi ghosty, I have emailed you!!

bad, I'm bad. sorry

have now emailed you with VERY large apology. was getting organised for a trip to the snow (very good fun, just got back) and didn't make it back to the computer. Not sure why I thought packing us all up for 4 days would be such a breeze. ds1 (4) had THE best time zooming down the toboggon slopes (I can't spell) ds2 (2) was a little more unsure but loved it in the end.
anyway, off the topic.

superloopy you make me laugh because 'billy no mates' was exactly the term I used to describe myself when we moved back to Melbourne last year (after 6 years in London) I would call my mumsgroup friends in London and tell them I was stalking mothers at swingsets in playgrounds trying to strike up conversations!

I am proudly now 'billy lots of lovely new friends even had 40 children at ds1 birthdayparty but always looking for more new lovely friends!' it will happen, its hard at first, really hard. It took a good six months before I stopped waking up and looking at dh and saying, 'why did leave so soon, what have we done, we could have stayed another summer at least!' and just generally feeling miserable and spending half my life on the phone to London. My sister finally said, 'they (meaning my mumsgroup in London) can't be your main friends anymore, you have to get out there'. And so I finally did and actually everyone around here has proved to be lovely and welcoming and I"m now (a year down the track) very happy here. Still miss the UK terribly but genuinely happy.
Gosh I'm rambling. I'd be very much up for a melbourne meet up. I was going to suggest it when I popped on to mn last week actually but then got sidetracked!

Lovely lovely PinkChick, I have been off MN for a while, life just crazy there for a bit but am happily back. Katie told me she'd emailed you? did you get get it?? was just on msn with them, NeveBean rolled over! ALSO, we are coming over next year and would so love to meet you. I'll email you.
xx

Sandringham indeedy. Perilously close to St Kilda and califrau's evil SIL! must keep my wits about me.

MelbourneMum · 11/07/2007 04:31
