Tracking container ship - the ship's disappeared!

I've just moved overseas and our removal company have given me link to a site called VesselFinder so I can track our shipment. I like this kind of gimmicky stuff so have been religiously following it (also so I know how long it will be before we need to have secured a rental property). It's been going fine so far until the ship exited the Suez canal. It's been 4 days now and no updates on the location since the 27th Jan. My wild imagination has now convinced me that the container ship has either sunk or been been ambushed by Somalian pirates. Does anyone know anything about these tracking systems, should a ship just disappear like that for days or am I expecting too much from the satellite updates? I've asked the removal company who have only given me another link to show when the container is due, nothing about where it is.

Yes, they aren't trackable once they go through the Suez precisely because of the security issues surrounding piracy.

There are also container trackers out there- have you got your container number as well as the name of the ship?

Have you tried also googling the ship name to see if any other trackers pick it up?

Yes, don't worry. The ship our container was on also disappeared but it turned up fine!

My container came through the Suez Canal in July, didn't move for five days according to the tracker

Try not to worry

Wo! Who knew?! I’m guessing North and South America have their own pirates; I’m sure the seas near east Africa keep the Somalian ones busy enough Grin

Good luck, hope your shipment arrives safely!

🤦🏼‍♀️

Well, that’ll serve me right. I TOTALLY read Panama for Suez. Sorry about that OP!

As you were.

Thanks all, it's appeared again just outside the port, I knew you wonderful Mumsnetters would have the answer!
