Child with Type 1 diabetes, better in Oz or UK (has dual nationality) for treatment

Hi

My 10 yr old son has just been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, we live in UK but he has dual nationality Australia/Britain. I have been here 20 years but wondering if treatment etc would be better in Oz. I know about the lifestyle etc.

Any Oz mums out there who could enlighten me? Originally from Perth WA if that makes any difference.

Also we have had brilliant treatment on NHS so can’t complain so far but just curious!

Thanks

I believe that all children in Australia have access to a funded CGM. I could be wrong about this though... If you are on twitter there is a very strong #ozdoc and #gbdoc and I'd suggest asking the question there with those hashtags as you should get some educated answers. You could also contact mumoftype1 via her blog or on twitter. She is lovely. So sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis and hope you are doing ok.

Hi t1Mum3

Thanks for replying and for your helpful information. I will certainly check them all out.

It doesn’t help that it is sunny and hot in Perth and freezing cold here but I feel the same way each winter!

I am doing ok, massive learning curve as it’s only been 2 weeks since diagnosis but coming to terms with all that it entails.

Thanks once again.
