Insurance

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about insurance. I'll soon be moving abroad to work in South America for 2 years. Once I've paid enough social security contributions, I'll be covered by the local health care system, but I need a health insurance policy to cover the first 2-3 months.

Most standard travel insurance policies won't cover me, as I'm not on holiday and won't be returning to the UK at the end of the 2-3 months. Expat health insurance is too expensive, as most providers seem to want me to commit to an annual policy. And one-way insurance policies all seem to lapse on arrival at the final destination.

Does anyone have any experience with these matters/ can recommend where to go from here?

Thanks!

Never heard of them but Expatriate group seem to do what you want]] as do AXA (who I have heard of!)

Try a backpackers policy - it will cover you for a couple of months.

Thanks, I'll look into those.

I think what I'm worried about is that if I make a claim and the insurers find out that I'm not actually returning to the UK at the end of the insured period, then it might invalidate the insurance. Has anyone been in a similar position?

BUPA, Allianz and Cigna (all large insurers - UK, German, and USA, respectively) also do expatriate medical insurance.
