Depends where you are. Bordeaux and Paris go back on 29th August (at least my kids do, private shcool)

But the secondary schools start on 2nd, so there might be a jam or two that weekend. Still, most of the French take their hols betwee 14th July and 15th August so it shouldn't be too awful.

Yes, most people seem to like a couple of weeks back at home getting kids back into routine and shopping for school bits so you should be ok.

My younger stepson goes back on 29 September.

My daughter between 4 and 7 September (still don't know).

My elder stepson sometime that week too.
