Hi all,

I'm in a LDR with a man who lives in Australia (I'm in the UK). It's his birthday on Saturday and I'm trying to find him a gift of some sort. But it's such a pain, so expensive and lots of hidden charges, plus they make the entire ordering process difficult.

He recently send me some jewellery and I got stung for customs tax to the tune of nearly £50! I paid it and got my jewellery but I don't want that happening again. So I decided that I'd order something for him on an Australian website, easy eh? Or so you'd think.

So, I've spent all bloody day looking at beer etc on Australian shops with a view to either buying him some beer and getting it delivered to his house OR getting a voucher so he can buy what he likes.

After finally finding some beer that looked decent I'm finding that the shops are asking for phone numbers so they can text a verification code for security reasons. And, it's only accepting Australian phone numbers :( It's so frustrating.

Getting really pissed off, I've wasted all day doing this (and a large part of yesterday). I recall getting him an Amazon voucher years ago (I think for his American bought Kindle) and that was fine but I'm going to have to check back and see what I did because I don't want to buy him something he can't use.

I could perhaps buy him something he can use/do over here (did that last year for Christmas) but it would be nice for him to have something on the day (or close to it). Any ideas?

Thanks everyone.

Have you tried Boozebud, I've used it before, can't remember needing a verification code.

You're cutting it fine for delivery though.

I've had a look but a lot of stuff is out of stock! Yep, I've been very busy lately and been having a casual look on and off but the date has crept up on me! I might just get him an Amazon voucher so he can buy whatever...

WARNING! to boost Amazon Australia sales, now all sales from Amazon anywhere else in the wold are suspended. So you can't buy from amazon UK, or Amazon US.
Problem is Amazon australia is crap, rubbish, limited choice and expensive.
If he lives in a big city, you might want to buy him a Westfield voucher instead www.westfieldgiftcards.com.au/Online/Order/OrderCard?cardDesignCode=WFXXTR&step=1

Do Dan Murphys' require a verification code via phone? They'll have lots of different types of beers, and they deliver.

Otherwise, Myer and Harris Scarfe are a bit like John Lewis ... you could buy a voucher for him.

Or if he likes stone fruit, Snowgoose do hampers full of amazing quality cherries and mangoes. I buy them for my in-laws each Christmas (I'm based in Australia now, but have a memory of ordering them when I lived in the UK). I usually just buy the plain fruit ones, but there are hampers that include wine, choccies etc.

I used the Australian Amazon, hopefully that's ok?

Yes Dan Murphy's asked for the verification code. So I gave up. He's not a fan of fruit sadly and I'm not aware of a Westfield nearby (he's not big on buying clothes really but he likes his gadgets).

Anyway he seemed happy with his Amazon voucher :)
