Moving from Oman to Abu Dhabi

Hi everyone,
DH has a job offer in Abu Dhabi starting in November.
Despite living in many places in the Middle East, this is the first time living in Abu Dhabi so it's all 'starting again' - apart from the (well my) junk we've carted around with us for over 10 years.
If seen villas in our budget in Al Reef, but I'm not sure if it's too far from his office in
Mussafah for his daily commute. The budget is up to 110000 AED a year. Does anyone have any advice or tips for us?
Our DC have all left home so schooling isn't an issue for us, just housing, commute, transporting our car and my paddle boarding habit to address.

Thanks in advance Smile

Don't move to Mussafa. It's cheap for a reason. We live in Al Reef and it's great for families. Also Al Zaina, Al Munera Al Raha are very nice if you want a middle priced place with a view of the marina. Further into the city there is Al Reem which is up and coming. All depends on your budget but these are the prime expat places. Kalifa is a concrete city with no personality. We live Abu Dhabi. Where will your work be based?

Sorry I read your post wrong. If he is working in Mussafa, Al Reef is straight down the motorway, check out the Downtown apartments. There are lots going easily within your budget currently. But distance wise they are all pretty close.

Thank you Savvy!

DH is pushing to find somewhere in Mussafa - easy commute and cheap.
I'm pushing for Al Reem, the maps say it's a 25 min drive to Mussafa, is it much longer during rush hour do you know?

Al Reem is very popular currently. Coming through ministry complex, Eastern mangroves and over Maqta bridge is always busy but nothing manic. From Al Reef you can go around the back straight onto the motorway. I guess it's probably about 30 mins from either.

Thank you Savvy, we'll check those areas out.

Interestingly, driving through Mussafah today, DH said 'Er, maybes we should look at other areas and I commute'.

Ironically Mussafa is where you have to go to get your car fixed but is also the most common place to have an accident. It's not a place that western expats live.

I’d go for al muneera/zeina/or the new one next to muneera (it’s got an awesome rooftop pool). Muneera has space to store paddle boards on their private beach.
Reef is cheap but you’ll spend your life trying to leave it.
Reem if you would join the British club (we didn’t) or prefer the nightlife there to yas island.
