How do we do this?

So I have a slightly ridiculous question, but how on earth do we get ITV and BBC in Australia? We can't seem to stream from any site. We aren't big on watching TV but occasionally it would make us feel closer to home if we can watch certain programmes. We are hoping Mumsnet can help us!

We are in Aus and don't bother with ITV but sometimes use BBC iPlayer via iPad app. But my partner does it via the UK (something to do with VPN / proxy) as the content won't play if done from Australian IP address. I think the iPlayer app is available on Apple TV but the same principle would apply with the proxy thing.

Netflix Aus also has some UK series (mostly seem to be crime related: Line of Duty, Broadchurch etc).

You can do it, but it is illegal. They don't have the rights to distribute over there via streaming services as you will have seen on the error messages. You'll need to install a VPN chrome extension and that should allow you to 'hack' this.

There are also websites that live stream uk channels 'tv player'?, again you'll need the VPN

try Netflix for the big series (The Fall, broadchurch etc) and like a pp says, you'd need a VPN to access player due to distribution rights abroad

We do amazon fire tv stick with the express vpn app installed. Then we launch Netflix, iplayer etc. and it thinks we’re in the UK (or whatever region we’ve set the vpn to). It’s very easy but you do have to pay for the VPN.
