Moving To the UK

We are moving to the UK for a year from Australia, to be closer to family. We are wanting to live somewhere south of London, but my head keeps imagining a little town, walk to school, kids running around, small village, safe and friendly. Any idea where to start looking?

South of London but commutable to London? Also, what's your budget?

Not a large budget. Renting about 300-400 per week. Doesn't need to be an easy communte to london.

What about somewhere like Alton or Winchester in Hampshire. The further you are from London, the more your budget will get you.

Unless you go to Winchester.
