Hi, has anyone got any advice/experiences of living in Iceland? I have been offered a very good opportunity career/finance-wise, but want to know what is good and bad about the country! Thanks

I went there on my honeymoon so can't give you a perspective on living there but I can say that the Icelandics are very friendly people. Down sides are the cost of living (everything is hideously expensive and anywhere outside of the capital is very remote and sleepy.

We honeymooned there, too. I really like it, but it is quite expensive. I don't think the winter is that cold (depending on where you are), but it is quite dark.

Which bit of Iceland are you thinking of?

Friends of ours decided against Iceland after looking into the school situation. They thought the classes at the international school would be too small - little scope for making friends and they didn't want to disrupt the dc's schooling too much by placing them in schools which taught in Icelandic since they would only have been there for 2-3 years. May not be relevant for you...

It would be a compound 40kms from Reykjiavik (sp). I have put the plans on the backburner for now as it seems far too isolated to have any kind of a life, no matter how big the paycheque is! Thanks though for all your advice
