What the point of Napisan is?

Why a programme that starts at 8.30 in the TV guide, eventually starts at 8.40

why you donate a present for the mother's day stall; then send the money in to buy it???

napisan is the god of nappy cleaning - great for stains and getting whites really white. I also use it as a booster for laundry powder - so I use less of that. Can also be used for cleaning things like timber decking, BBQ plates.

channel 10 is notorious for this - no idea - this is something that has occurred lately rather than always being like that.

kinda like donating for a raffle and then purchasing the tickets - but most times have won something. Have no experience of this yet!!

Oh I really do love napisan - one of the things I missed about Aus when living in the UK. Napisan in the UK is nowhere near as good as AUssie napisan.

hope that helps a little

robinpud · 10/05/2007 13:34

Thanks eidsvold.
Mogwai and I are not enamoured of napisan. Why I picked a school where the kids wear white socks god only knows! However I brought a vanish stick fomr the UK and that is fab. Napisan is so exp!

Tomorrow is the Mother's Day stall and ds has strict instructions NOT to but the slightly used Christmas candles which are amongst the choice donations!

Aus TV generally is I mean repeats of Misommer murders on a Saturday night!

Another question is about hair colouring. Is it just here where I am that ladies don't so much have highlights and lowlights but great big STRIPES in their hair. Is that a fashion or poor hair colouring? They make Susan on neighbours look mild..

oh god it's not just ds1's school doing the mother's day stall

one of the "gifts" on the list on offer is a can opener. I have told ds1 I want it. No question.

Robinpud, don't bother with terrestrial tv, it's shite all round. Give in to Rupert Murdoch and get foxtel.

I like napisan

Oh what I wouldn't go for a Ginsters cheese and onion pasty and a bag of frazzles

TheDullWitch · 10/05/2007 13:41

Why do Australians have the worst tattoos in the world? Huge hideous things - including faces of their children, blueugh! - on otherwise quite classy people and, on one woman I saw in Sydney, huge angel wings covering both her shoulder blades.

eidsvold · 10/05/2007 22:57

robin - I buy coles own napisan soaker thingy. They even do a sensitive one now that is brilliant.

pmsl at the thought of a can opener for mother's day - unless I really needed one.

suzy- I am going in to help wrap the presents once the little darlings have chosen what they want.. and so I can rofl at what some of my friends are getting!
BigW have a promo for mother's day and are suggesting a Brita water jug as a suitable gift to give....

I don't so much dislike Napisan (though it stings your hands if you have any cuts or grazes), I just really object to having to use it in the first place. I have this shite toploading washer and I put things in it, it swills them around a bit and spits them out still dirty.

So the only way I can get anything clean is by rubbing napisan in beforehand (hence the stinging).

I really miss my washing machine. I have a nice Meile one, not top of the range, just a basic workhorse model. It's dead ugly but does a great job and has never broken down.

Re the telly - it's the worst I've seen anywhere in the developed world! So many game shows! Family Fortunes at primetime!

mogwai · 11/05/2007 03:04

(but I LOVE Australia)

eidsvold · 11/05/2007 03:35

robin - I saw a toaster, kettle and blender pack as a suitable mother's day present.

As the radio came on this morning they were advertising some you beaut kettle for mother's day - I told dh he would get said kettle upside his head if he ever brought that for me for mother's day

MrsJohnCusack · 11/05/2007 04:51

think on this: Australian TV is bad, NZ TV is worse

sibble · 11/05/2007 05:15

hurray somebody else who thinks like me. I made myself VERY unpopular at a recent PTA meeting by saying I object to having to 'donate' items towards a raffle at every opportunity - easter, christmas, mothers day, principles dogs birthday etc. then be stalked until shamed into buying tickets for items I don't want. I said if the school was that hard up it should put up the 'donation'. I'm in NZ btw, we don't have school fees but if you don't pay your 'donation' you also get stalked until you pay up or plead poverty. Now while I understand that this is because the govt doesn't seem to value or invest in education, get real and call it a fee for the amount you need. It's tax deducatable.
As for TV what is with country calendar and ANtiques Roadshow at prime viewing time. DH insists the former is a national icon and you're not a true kiwi until you know the music by heart and watch it intensely. hmmmmmmmmmmm
rant over, soap box back neatly under chair

btw napisan is also BIG here, I have a box I think DH uses it for the pool

robinpud · 11/05/2007 06:08

Well I have just finished my morning wrapping presents and some poor mother is getting a pedestal mat as a mother's day present!

I haven't had any reasonable explanation for the stripey hair yet...

Mogwai- actually I soaked the kids' white school socks for 4 days in Napisan and they are nearly clean. ( Then I use a hot wash!!)
Just bung it in a bucket in the laundry room and keep adding to it!

OP posts:
suzywong · 11/05/2007 11:36

YEAH!
I got my can opener

robinpud · 11/05/2007 12:32

I will be delightedly opening the photo album I sent in..

OP posts:
robinpud · 11/05/2007 12:33

so come on suzy.. do they have stripes in Perth or highlights???

OP posts:
mogwai · 11/05/2007 12:53

Ah the Napisan bucket. Unfortunately my LO is too young for me to leave napisan bckets lying about. However, we do have two sinks in the kitchen.

Still, this is Australia. Nothing really works properly. The plugs aren't a good fit so the water slowly seeps away.....

SweetyDarling · 13/05/2007 14:44

This makes me smile. Sounds just like all my friends complaining, but the other way around - English terrestial TV is dreadful...nothing in the UK works etc etc.
Glad to hear it is just a factor of dealing with new/unfamiliar stuff and not Aussies being particularly fussy!
