Anyone in Bangalore?

Hello

Just wondered if there were any Mumsnetters in Bangalore who could share some advice please? We're looking at a possible move to Bangalore and I have a few (many) questions to ask on where to live, schools and on general life there!

I’m in Bangalore. Have lived here for a few years. Happy to answer any questions you might have.

Where will you work? Traffic can be bad so your choice of area to live will most likely depend on where your office will be.

Lovely to hear from you! We're still waiting to hear if we'll be making the move but my husband's job would be in Whitefield. I've heard about the traffic so we would definitely be looking for accommodation and schools within that area. We have three kids - one school age. Any advice on areas to live and schools to look at would be much appreciated. I've heard that Repton are opening up next September but can't find much info online...

How do you find life in Bangalore? Did it take a while to adapt?

There are plenty of expats in Whitefield most of them live in gated communities. Palm Meadows is one of the older but still very popular with houses of different sizes and a great clubhouse. Prestige Ozone and Windmills of Your Mind are smaller but also quite popular. The traffic can be mad, especially in rush hour but you'll find most things that you need out there.

Two of the most popular international schools are TISB and Stonehill. Both have school busses from Whitefield. I would sugest that you go and visit both, I find them very different. Our children goes to Stonehill and we are very happy with the school. Personally I wouldn't chose a brand new school.

People here are friendly and expats very open to welcome you and help out. Making new friends was easy. The wether is good, mostly not too hot or too cold and weekends are often spend by the pool. The downside is the traffic, and all small tings that can be a struggle and take time to solve but over all we are happy here. If you come with an open mind and are happy to take on the differences you'll have a good time.

I’ve had a look at both Stonehill and TSIB and Stonehill does seem a better fit for us. I had thought it was too far from Whitefield though – 1.5 hrs seems a long time on a bus! We would definitely want to check out both beforehand of course.

Yeah, I’m a little unsure about a brand new school too. I guess I was thinking that it would mean that my son wouldn’t be the only newbie in class..

It’s lovely to hear that you’ve settled in well and that making friends has been easy. We are excited about experiencing a complete difference in culture – but I appreciate that I may have to gain some more patience along the way too!

Trust me, your son would not be the only newbie in class even in an established school :) Expats come and go all the time and both kids and teachers are used to welcoming new friends.

I traveled to Bangalore once when I went for a conference. Its in Southern part of India. Except the traffic and population, its a nice city. I stayed for a week in a 5 star hotel called Leela Palace. Quite comfortable and less expensive. When are you planning to move?

Hi we have just moved to Bangalore near JP nagar. Struggling with the dilemma of schools my little one is 2.9 years old trying to find a good school near the area. Does anyone have any suggestions???
