Everyone overseas: Do you get endless tv programmes about buying property in the UK?

I've been off work sick for a few days (starting to feel better now), so have been moaning to myself on the sofa and watching daytime tv which I never normally get chance to see.
It seems to be endless property programmes, many of them about buying abroad.
Which got me wondering - if you live outside of Britain, are your tv channels full of programmes about buying property in the UK? Or buying somewhere elsewhere in your country?
Or is it just that acquiring new/second/holiday/retirement homes abroad is a peculiarly Brit thing?

Seems to be a Brit trend (like diy and cooking programs and others I can't think of at the moment). I have French tv and there isn't any of those.

Property prices in the UK are too high for people to have second homes there!

seems to be a brit thing although some aussie have holiday apts or homes.

TV here (NZ)is full of same programs as you get, not edited at all. So one person who lives somewhere you have never heard of, buying something somewhere else you have never heard of.

We also get the normal makeover, and auction type programmes locally made - so double whammy for us. Actually triple whammy as we get the Australian ones as well.

At the moment in Germany there are loads of programmes about moving abroad - seems like a mass exodus is going on. Popular places are Spain, Canada, USA and New Zealand. I watched one about a couple moving to Scotland, it made me extremely jelous and homesick! They don'tseem to be buying property though, mostly just trying for a better quality of life.
In the UK you get so many of those house make-over programmes too (which I watch every time we're over there), we only have a few of those in Germany.

Since we got English satellite TV & radio 3 years ago, I haven't watched a single programme on German telly. When we moved last year we had the German satellite feed go into dh's study and the English one into the living room. This was after 10 years of watching badly dubbed mostly US imports & flipping CNN International & relying on the intermittent kindness of friends & family to send me videos.
Dh rarely watches German TV.
So I'm no help

mamhaf, I think the main reason why many Brits are looking to buy property abroad is that UK house prices are just so incredibly high compared with most countries.

For the value of a small flat in the UK you can buy a nice (holiday or permanent) house in Germany, France or Spain.

I'm in the US and have never seen a property programme - there are a few like Changing rooms and Extreme Makeover (home edition) but not much about buying & selling. I don't want much TV so I may be wrong...

No, but we get them occasionally on 'the brit invasion' or why les anglais are buying up dordogneshire/ Gascony on Trent or Upper Brittany.

London is heaving with the French though.

Interesting - tv producers in the UK also seem to enjoy programmes about people who have moved abroad and for whom it's turned out badly...there's one running at the moment on Channel 4 called Chaos at the Chateau about a couple in Slovenia (I think) with the dream of turning a wreck into a luxury hotel...compulsive viewing, and it's on in the evening so I get to see it!
