Passport validity freak out

Hi ..long time no post but wondering if others have experienced this.

I am planning UK return very soon (weeks) and have just realised DS only has a couple of months validity on his passport.

This isn't an issue for U.K.and our transit point is just that (a transit for two hours) where it appears there are no border processes. BUT I am freaking out about being denied boarding by the airline.

There are obviously easy ways of mitigating this... eg by delaying travel and waiting a month for a new document or trying to get emergency travel docs.

But.... i am wondering if I am just being paranoid as technically we are fine to travel on this basis.

Sorry forgot to add a question....is anyone able to share how they have managed similar?

Surely if you have return tickets with a date before the expiry date in the passport, there's no actual issue?

This can be a real ball ache. Is there an airline phone number you can call and check? I would want some definite answers in your shoes about how fussy the airline is going to be.

Thanks for response molly .... they are one way tickets and UK passports so quite probably no issue. But 6month validity on docs seems to be a thing for lots of airlines

Thanks down. The travel agent was reluctant to sell me the ticket then talked to a colleague and was fine with it... by which point I had 'the fear' so haven't booked. I tried airline and got caught in a contact us / FAQ loop so no actual phone number

Renew it now.

I've been in so many situations at airports where I'm sweating bullets because we've got the wrong visa or a child has been left off a visa or the passport only has 3 months left on it! Every time it's something and we are always bricking it and then running full pelt through the airport to find our plane etc I wish you luck :)

Personally I would get on and renew the passport, just for the peace of mind.

Flying from where to where?

This happened to friend recently - her daughter's passport had 5mths left & the airline refused them at check-in. Not sure if it's airline or border requirement but most say you need 6mths. Id try to get one quickly. We live in SE Asia & got a new one within 3wks
