Visiting schools in the holidays?

We need to start visiting schools in New Jersey prior to our move but I know they've all broken up already. Has anyone any experience of trying to choose a school like this? Hate the idea of just going by websites and not being able to walk round the school.

Anyone help?

I'd say if that is what you have to do, that is what you have to do. I know it is not ideal. I'd go and have a look around even if it is empty.
We have just chosen schools in Shanghai for our children without visiting - purely, as you say, from their websites and from asking people. It's difficult but we just did not have time to go and visit.
