Help! What do I need to pack to last us until the boat arrives.........?

Please, please, please send me some advice. My shipping company are arriving on Thursday and I need to work out what to take with us on the plane to last us the 4 weeks (probably more like 6-8 weeks as I don't believe a word they say... ) until all our stuff arrives. I have a baby and a 3 year old. We are moving into a corporate apartment for a month. I am feeling really overwhelmed and can't work out what to pack (stupid, I know). We have 6 suitcases worth. What was essential for all of you to pack when you moved??? We are moving to Washington DC btw.

I have never moved but my inner experience yells - TAKE CALPOL!

Take some familiar toys for your 3 yr old.
Comfortable clothes / shoes...nothing too fancy....medicines....and be prepared to buy some essentials when your there to help you settle.
When we moved out to Oz...it was about 12 weeks before our stuff arrived...we bought mattresses to sleep on the floor and garden furniture to sit on....both came in useful after our stuff arrived.
