Delicate question about movers/packers for international move

The shipping company is going to pack everything, I'm allowed to organise and prepack a little (like fill unused suitcases etc) but they will look into each bag to itemise stuff for customs.

I've tried to ask the shipping company boss in an oblique way (referring to "my personal items") but he didn't understand exactly what I was saying! ("Yes you can pack them but please let us look in the bag to itemise the goods for customs").

What I really want to know is ... Will they itemise my vibrator?! Blush I'm sure they've seen it all, and there's nothing more interesting than that, really. But I will be there dying of shame watching them write "one vibrator" on a customs form.

Chuck it out and buy a new one?!

Put it in your hand luggage?

SoupDragon · 15/05/2017 22:45

Put it in hand luggage?? Where it will be xrayed in front of you and lots of other people??!

SoupDragon · 15/05/2017 22:46

Do you have to watch them? Can you just go out and pretend it never happened?

PoochiePie · 15/05/2017 23:15

Are you taking a suitcase in the hold of the plane? Presumably the shipping company will be delayed with all your belongings so you must be bringing some toiletries and clothes etc not in hand luggage? If so I would put it in there (without batteries in it of course)!

Loooool!
Put it in the bottom of a pouch with your hairdryer, electric razors etc..... and tag them as " beauty/personal care"
They won't pry. Make sure you remove batteries

Taytotots · 16/05/2017 11:01

Depends where you are going but ours wasn't itemised to that extent. It was more at the box level - e.g. one box of kitchen items. I don't think they actually looked through boxes - just at top.

Hand luggage. Take out batteries. :o

Oh sorry, should've said - we're travelling for a few months while our things are en route so taking it in my hand luggage would mean carting them around with us (through multiple airport x-rays).

Am reluctant to throw it (okay, them) away as one or two were expensive!

And yes, I do have to watch them pack, for security reasons. Too many stories of movers taking stuff here, unfortunately.

Thank you Tayto, that's made my mind a little easier! There's a lot of stuff, surely they won't have time to go through each tiny thing.

I think I'll do what Laptop suggested: "Put it in the bottom of a pouch with your hairdryer, electric razors etc..... and tag them as " beauty/personal care""
