Too middle aged to move (to Ireland)?

There is a possibility we (both late forties) could move to Ireland with my husband's work, with a daughter about to start secondary school.

Although I have relatives dotted about the country, they don't live near the place we could move to.

I can imagine that this would have been an adventure 10 years ago, with good chances of making friends with a young child. But now I'm not so sure.

Does anyone have experience of it?

Specifically Ireland question, or relocating with secondary school age child question? If the second, I'd say, what do you feel about it, what does your daughter feel about it and what does your DH feel about it? If generally positive then visit and get an idea of the place. Then decide. You can't predict what will/won't happen in life even if you stay put.
