How much needed for a comfortable life

In or near Melbourne or Geelong? If you live or have lived there what is a decent income to live comfortably? A family of four, used to living in a nice area, running two cars, but of travelling etc. Thanks!

Guess it depends on your definition of "comfortable"...

$150k-$200k would rent you a house in a nice Melbourne suburb, give you two cars, school fees, bills, money to play with etc.

It would not however get you a lifestyle including a four bedroom house with a pool in Bayside, two new Audis\BMWs\etc, fees at Mentone Girls/Brighton Grammar/etc, bi-annual trips to Bali etc

Ha thanks - I wish my definition of a comfortable life were the second... that sadly is not what we are used to but was actually wondering if a single income of $150k would be enough or whether we would desperately need a good second income just to have an ordinary life! Thanks for your reply.

After having children, we were down to a single income around that and it was fine. Nice house, nice area, car, holidays etc.
