Perth nursery/kindergarten waiting lists?

I've posted a few questions on Perth as we wait to see if DH will get a job there....anyway I'm busy worrying/researching everything meantime. DS1 will be 3 when we arrive and ideally we'd like to get him into daycare soon after we arrive. Are long wait lists common? We'd be looking at NOR suburbs but until we find a long term rental can't really go any advance contacting of places. Also what is the difference between kindergarten and daycare at his age? We'd be looking for somewhere that accommodates 8am to 6pm for 4 days a week like he has here in the UK, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Kindy is school hours 2 days one week and 3 days the other. Some long day cares run kindy programmes for the kids who need wrap around care. Our school does before and after school care.
