Car leases/finance when you move

We have been told a move abroad is likely to be happening in the first half of next year. I have just sold my car and was about to get one on lease hire however I've just realised that I won't be here for that long!
Has anyone moved abroad when they are part way through a lease hire or finance contract? What happens with this situation?

You have to pay the balance if what you owe on it which can be a lot

In your situation i would buy a car that you can sell when you move

We had a car on lease
Before our last move, had only got 1 yr through a 3yr lease. We sold the lease on to someone else but lost about 10k in the process. Sad. And then it turned out we could have kept it and driven to our new location. Angry

We have a car on finance now (no we never learn), if we have to move before its finished we just sell it and pay it out.

You could see if someone else is thing to get rid of their lease that had 6-the left on it, not sure where you are but if you Google cars for lease transfer, something like that, you should find a place where they advertise. Alternatively, you could look at a month to month rental car.

I bought a renault last year for GBP500 from our local garage. It is 8 years old and runs great when I am home. The car has become my Dad's run around because he prefers it to his car. Something like this is ideal for you.

I wouldn't consider taking on a new lease knowing you won't be here in a few months. Just buy a cheap run around

I bought a second hand car last year and am already selling it as I got well and truly stung by the dealer so am loathe to buy something else that I will end up losing a load of money on. Might see if DH company has a pool car they would let me use considering the circumstances
