Tell me about Singapore

There is a very real possibility that we (DH, DD and I) may relocate to Singapore.

What is it like?

We would like DD to go to an international school (she is 4) and understand that they tend to have a waiting list. What have you done re: school whilst you wait?

There are loads of fairly recent threads on Singapore so do a search. For schools there are waiting lists at the bigger schools with amazing facilities but when we went there years ago, dd1 was also 4 so we wanted nurturing rather than shiny sports pitches. We ended up at Dover court and loved it (dd2 went there too). Pre schools go up to age 6 so look at those too (we loved blue house). It's a super easy posting.

When were you thinking of moving?

Thank you my we may move early spring or even winter. I had done some searches, but couldn't find something specific about schools per se.

Did you like it there? We are actually planning to visit soon, so hoping to visit a few schools etc.

It's called Asia-lite for a reason - it's quite an easy place to live. Of course there are still cultural and language difficulties, despite English being the main language. Things don't always work in the way you expect them to, but that's probably true of any expat experience.

In terms of schools, most don't have waiting lists. And even those that do may not have waiting lists for all years. It seems to be easier to get into preschool years. Look at the options and decide which ones you like best, and take it from there. As MyFriends pointed out, bigger isn't always better.

I agree with looking at small preschools too. My 5 year old is in a lovely preschool with a mix of expat and local children, that's less than 10 minutes walk from home.
