What is everyone doing for Australia Day

I am off to BBQ (naturally) in the evening. During the day I will be dividing my time equally between an air con vent and the pool, after looking at the weather for tomorrow (38 pheww).

Think we are having a picnic with the IL, not sure where yet tho...haven't been let in on the finer details yet!

mymama · 25/01/2007 07:25

Where are you humpydumpy? We would normally do the bbq thing but I am working this year. Only work Fri's and Sat's so can't really ask for it off. Double time and a half so don't really mind!!

sunnywong · 25/01/2007 07:27

we will be staying in doors under one of our two air con units - old house and avoiding all cheap beef sausages that smell of lips. Yuck. Actually this time of year makes me veryvery homesick for the British Pork Banger.

That's about all I think. May go to the beach very early

Is this weather for real? It's like someone is standing outside the bathroom window with a bloody hairdryer on - just washed ds2 from head to toe, it's Painting Day here at the Wongs as MIL is away - YIPEEE

eidsvold · 25/01/2007 08:04

we have had such humidity lately it is driving me mad - we don't have air con but usually manage to get a decent breeze but it has been so still - not even a whisper. Although as I am typing this - storms are brewing - not sure whether it will amount to anything. Finally some rain but that sometimes has the effect of just making it more humid.

We are popping over to my mums to catch up with db and sil ( did not see them at christmas) and then back home for quiet lunch. Dh has to help out at a community event due to his involvement in the SES. So quiet night in for the dds and I.

Take the dds swimming on the weekend sometime before dd1 is off back to kindy and school.

sandcastles · 25/01/2007 08:07

I have just been informed that we are going to Rapid Bay, a park that backs onto a beach...dd will be pleased!

eidsvold · 25/01/2007 08:29

we were thinking of going to a pool/lagoon but know it will be packed out so visiting instead. Me - i would rather be the beached whale wallowing in the pool

sandcastles · 25/01/2007 10:27

Lol, I bet the last thing you need

We were doing the Zoo, but dh thinks that it will be too busy, what with it being the last day of school holidays here.

humpydumpy · 25/01/2007 13:52

mymama - I am in Perth.

No wild partying for any of us then.

I was planning on making a bit of an effort for the BBQ tomorrow night, maybe even dusting off the hair straightners, but it is way to hot for any of that. The girl who's house we are going to is very glam (she looks like Penelope Cruz) and you can't compete with that.

Feck, it's hot
38 degrees at 6pm

eidsvold · 26/01/2007 09:01

no idea how hot here - should go and look at the thermometer. But been very humid all day - threatening to rain but nothing forthcoming.

dds are sitting in nappies/pants and that is it.

we went out early morning to see my mum, db and sil but were home quite early.

Feel sorry for dh directing traffic at a community do as part of his being in the SES!! so he is out in spunky bright orange overalls and heavy workboots from about 1pm!!

eidsvold · 26/01/2007 09:02

30 degrees but I think it is about 80% humidity!!

eidsvold · 26/01/2007 09:03

sunnywong - you only have 16% humidity - would swop that for ours.....

love your post on the good day/bad day thread

eidsvold · 26/01/2007 09:04

oops that should be swap!!

thankfully it has been a wiggles marathon on disney channel so the dds have been lolling about watching wiggles.... should be going to bed but it is still too sticky.

cremolafoam · 26/01/2007 09:06

wishing i still lived in sydney instead of looking out at rain and grey of UK
thinking about my wedding ( and honeymoon in Whitsundays)
avoiding watching the new life in australia programme on BBc1 cos it makes me want to weep

might grill myself a prawn

sunnywong · 26/01/2007 09:07

it is indeed a day only fit for lolling about in, we are doing the same but to back to back showings of "Gumby the Movie"

Just took ds2 out for a ride on his bike to the deli for an icypole - do you like my use of the Australian vernacular there? - and we were crimson on our return.

I had another Good day today and all, I think the heat agrees with DH.

My friend just came back from seeing folks in Brisbane and she was telling me about a volcano made of doonas that kids post pictures down at the Art Gallery. Have you seen it or was she just off her tits on meth?

eidsvold · 26/01/2007 09:10

nah the art gallery etc has undergone a massive overhaul as well as a gallery of modern art - have not been off to explore it - thought I might take dd2 one day when dd1 is back in kindy and scope the place out.

it is not a deli - it is a shop

and not an icy pole - it is an ice block

well at least here in QLD that is what we call them.

have posted an updated pic of the girls - they look so grown up.. .where has the time gone.

sunnywong · 26/01/2007 09:13

what on your MN profile? Can't see them yet

I bet your dh is going to smell like an Angel's breath when he gets home - not. No offence

what initial does your surname begin with? I cant' find you on my email address book but I know you're in there somewhere

and cremolafoam, very about the Whitsundays

eidsvold · 26/01/2007 09:14

nah it is in the members profile topic.

surname starts with b

eidsvold · 26/01/2007 09:15

i'll be fast asleep in bed by the time he gets in.... the community thing has fireworks at 9pm and then he has to direct the traffic out of the parking lot ( always fun) and then come home.

cremolafoam · 26/01/2007 09:30

sunnywong -it was so great - did a thread about it a while ago and another mnetter had been to exactly the same place.
happy memories
