Shipping dilemma

We just found out that although we are leaving and plan to ship our belongings in June, can't get them until we get our work permits - which will be about late Oct.
We plan on going home for the summer and will arrive in our new country mid August.
I am not sure we will still need our things after living without them for 3 months. But we can't carry everything (dh & the dds have quality bikes, colour printer, my kitchen supplies I don't want to get rid of).
Any creative suggestions of what to do? Do we sell everything? Or ship it and live without our things for 3 months?

This is our third international move and we always end up getting rid of stuff and starting again - I wanted to avoid this process this time! Thanks

Can you look into furniture hire? We did this, although the the wait for our shipment was only about 6 weeks. Also it was paid for by employers! I'm not sure how cost effective it would be for three months, you might end up paying close to the replacement cost for things.

When we moved back here from the US we filled a shipping container with stuff that we knew we weren't going to get for approx. 8 weeks. We rented a furnished flat for two months to get around it. Then moved into an unfurnished one after two months to coincide with the arrival of our stuff.

Our shipments normally take 8 weeks or so, we also rent a furnished apartment for a few weeks, have been know to air freight stuff like computers, printers etc that we will need sooner.

We've hired furniture before and we've 'managed' without. I've also bought new stuff. I dont think we've ever had our container arrive quickly.

How much can you take as hand luggage? We were always allowed extra.

Thanks. If we were doing direct flights it would be much easier, but as we are flying home for six weeks, it is much more problematic. We can only carry so much.
Air freight might be a good idea. And just getting rid of the rest. Might be a good idea to try a minimalist lifestyle.

Think hard about what you will get tired of managing without. We shipped everything, and by the time it arrived we'd got fed up and bought new beds and sofas. We thought we could manage on cheap spare beds. Be brutal and get rid of anything that's not the right wattage (electrical stuff) or won't fit standard bedding in the new country.

Where are you going? We were told the exact same thing in Thailand but then some colleagues paid a bit extra and got their stuff straight away! We had to wait...

We moved to a furnished house.
We flew with clothing, some kids toys, laptop.
We air freighted bikes, computer, printer (tho it didn't survive very well, the heads dried out, and havnt really recovered), DH's vital work texts, rest of toys, books, some bedding (house came with hideous stuff which did til ours arrived) and specilist kitchen stuff. I did end up buying some baking stuff, but we managed. With Ramadan in the middle, our air stuff arrived in about 6 weeks. About a month before the people who shipped their stuff a month before us (ie there's took 3 months).
If there is no furniture, look at the price of flying all of it (it was £200 more for us - 10%- apparently we didn't take much). Or consider splitting air and ship. Would airfreight get in before you had visas?
I do have loads of stuff in storage in the UK that I wanted to keep, but didn't want to risk shipping (wedding glassware etc).
