moving to Vancouver

Hi. I've been offered a job in Vancouver and (visa success pending), we are moving. We have 3 children, ages 7, 4, and 16m. I'm American, husband is British.
I'm looking for suggestions/advice/recommendations on so much! Has anyone moved to BC from the UK? We aren't planning to take much apart from clothes, books, toys, and sentimental items so we will ship a bit over but mostly are starting fresh!
I've no idea where we will live other than outside Vancouver in surrey.
If love to hear from any MNers who live or have lived in BC!

I'm here on holiday and loving it!
House rices have gone up 25% this year inly driven by mainland chinese buyers.
I also know the schools ate great and surrey is one of the best school districts.
Such an amazing natural site with lots to do outdoors. I would move here in a flash given the opportunity!

We are planning to move to Vancouver too. My sister and husband are established there and have residency and I have travelled there a lot and love the place. My partner and I have a 1 year old and are keen to give him a future in Canada as soon as possible.

How has the visa process been so far? Are you there already? I see you posted this in January... I'd be realy grateful to know what profession you have as I'm searching for that all-important way in. I'm a teacher in the UK and have a qualification to teach English as a Foreign Language as well, which should make me super-employable but employers ads often say that they want Canadian residents only to apply. I would love to learn more about how you searched for your job and the best sites to use. I currently check indeed.com and makeafuture and I'm registered with the BC Ministry of Education and have BC Certification to teach...but the teaching jobs just aren't there for English it seems. ESL is where I'm putting all my hopes right now as there are hundreds of English Language schools.

It would be fantastic to chat to you about your experiences. Surrey could be an option for us initially if it's a better place to get established.
