Hi there

Yes, I had my DS at home with a private midwife (German with perfect ENglish and Spanish and just lovely - well know in my area but not doing home births anymore

A friend of mine recently gave birth in a private hospital without any insurance too. Do you want me to check how much she paid?

Where are you?

I am in Cyprus and it is the same system as you mention. Privately I paid £15 a visit to the doctor (once a month)with £50 for blood tests, but I got a scan every visit. Birth, stay in hospital averages between £800 and £1000 here, but I used my E111 card (or the now medical card)as I was taken in for emergency C-section at 28 weeks, but had to go to the local general hospital. Do you have your European Medical Card? you can get it on line.

Yes, we did! I got pg before we were in the socio system and before I'd had a chance to join a private company. We went with Sanitas, who paid for everything except the actual birth, which was about 2,800eur I think. Other companies either wouldn't take us, or wanted us to pay our monthly premiums plus all the costs running up to and including the birth. May have changed now, this was 2.5 yrs ago.
Hope this helps, any other q's, ask away!
