Hi Yumisumi!
Yes there are a few MNers in Japan.
I've been here over 20 years.
Are you on an expat package or moving here to live locally?

TanteRose · 17/08/2015 04:44

Work culture will depend on the company obvs.
Japanese private companies can be very formal and expect suits and overtime.
You can get almost anything over here - prices are very reasonable if you shop like a local! Eating out is nowhere near as expensive as the UK.
Yokohama and Kanagawa are lovely - close to the sea and mountains yet also only 30 mins from Tokyo which is an amazing city.

Hi, we arrive most probably in December this year. Looking to put DDs in YIS or St Maur. Which one is good?

Kids are 8 and 4.

We currently live in Singapore but are from England.

It's a shame I will have to get rid of all my electronics.

Do you speak Japanese? How hard is life without the language?

My visa is currently being processed. I will be out there in September for home searching. What are the things to look out for? Company will arrange and negotiate the lease. Houses are very small there it seems.

o-hisashi buri indeed! Will PM you

Hi, Yumi
Ok sorry, I have no idea about expat life/school etc.

Best to check out some expat sites.
Hopefully someone else will be along with more info.

It's fairly easy to survive with only limited Japanese especially in Yokohama. If you're expat, the housing will be spacious and rent will be covered Wink

Having researched the school thing they are quite different but both deliver the IB diploma in the end. If curriculum matters, start there.
Depends on your kids ages. I'd say coming for one of the big schools in Sg like TTS or UWCSEA i'd want YIS.

Yumisumi · 18/08/2015 12:51

Thanks laptop.

I thought so too. YIS seems more international.

Any advise on what type of clothes to bring? For work and for play?

Will I be able to buy winter clothes there at a reasonable price or should order online from England?

Clothes much cheaper over here, especially with the exchange rate. Uniqlo is fabulous for winter things.
