We are emigrating to Oz early next year and just wanting to know if children have vaccines at same time out there. I have a nearly 3 year old and wondering whether to look into him have his 2nd MMR jab before we go. Do they have to have the 2nd one over there? I want him to have single vaccines for this one and thought it would be easier to sort here before we go. Any advice?

Had this conversation with my health visitor last week, if I remember right the jags are the same, however some are given at different times, cant remember exactly, but she said that some are required before going to nursery. She said each health authority would have details. We to are emigrating and would never had thought of this. Good luck.

My dd had just been thru the Oz programme, she was 3 in August. We came here from the UK in June.

Our Dr recommended she have

Pneumococcal x 1 Hib x 1 (according to the Dr Australia doesn't recognise the last UK dose of this as they feel it is done too early & hey do the last one after 12 months.

Hep B x 3 DD has had 2, needs one more. She had the hep now as they usually have it now & when they are older, in school (can't remember what age...early teens I think) but our Dr said they are stopping it & dd will miss it as she will have reached that age after they pull it!

I didn't have to pay, but we are Medicare registered & they swiped my card.

That was in Adelaide, all the different states have a different programme tho, so not sure elsewhere.

They also immunise against Chicken Pox here, dd didn't have this as I really think it isn't necessary. There is a charge for that vax in Adeliade.

Take along your childs medical book as they will need to compare.

They do MMR here, dd will have it at 4. Sorry, not sure re singles, suzywong or eidsvold may be able to advise, or I could try & find out.

I will list ages etc for South Australia in another post...just need to pop out now.

nope - here in Qld 2nd MMR is not due until they are 4.

Single vaccinations are not available in Aus.

When we came over here with dd1 - aged 2 - I just took her immunisation record to the GP - got her to fill out a history form for the immunisation record and then we looked to see if she needed any caztch up - one - hepB I think from memory and just did that one.

this should help

here in QLd local councils do immunisation free but if it is catch up it is $6 - but I just got them done at the GP's - usual doc fee.

might find this useful too

If I got my 3 year old vaccinated now in UK with MMR would that be ok for Australia? To be honest I am more concerned about my youngest (17 mths) - his eczema went terrible after the 1st one.

Will they do it so soon in the UK?

I'm not sure how that would work, tbh
