Is there anything similar to Mumsnet in America?

Can anyone recommend any American based Mums and/or Parenting websites/chatrooms? I've got a few friends based in the USA who would be interested to know if anything remotely equivalent exists. Thanks

JoolsToo · 12/11/2006 00:17

mind I suppose it gets a bit quiet around midnight

expatinscotland · 12/11/2006 00:18

I can't see this happening in the US.

People are so nippy over there, and take things too personally and seriously.

So PC.

I can't imagine having a piss up and spewing on an MN equivalent in the US.

expatinscotland · 12/11/2006 00:28

b/c we need to be inclusive and accepting.

even of straight up freaks.

as long as they're 'supportive'.

i forget about the place most of the time. i haven't set foot there in 5 years.

'you're so unsupportive.'

well, there's a no-brainer! i'm a stranger in cyberspace, ffs.

hamstermunker · 12/11/2006 00:58

EIS you make me larf

admylin · 12/11/2006 12:22

There are loads of American mom forums so hard to tell which is really big or nationwide but some are nice anyway, I find the members usually quite friendly. Try www.momtomomchat.com or www.theparentingchat.com.

paulaplumpbottom · 15/11/2006 15:37

If you are a SAHM you might enjoy Happy Housewives www.darlashine.com. If you aren't I wouldn't check it out, may offend

lemonaid · 15/11/2006 15:44

Connected-moms is OK, although very photo-blinky-ticker-emoticonny as with most non-MN sites. But you don't get the same sense of drama that you do here. Or pirate sex or parboiled hamsters. I think they charge for membership now, though.

I'm not sure there's anywhere quite like Mumsnet... Gin

lemonaid · 15/11/2006 15:46

And, indeed, . Although I prefer Gin. I may request that on the Christmas Emoticons thread...
