Dubai in January

Hi I am planning a trip from back to the UK from NZ. Planning on being in Duabi from 7-10th Jan. Any advice on where to stay, what to do and what the weather will be like would be appreciated. We are a family of 4 with boys aged 11 and 15. I would be quite happy to lounge around the pool and relax, do some shopping but think the boys would like to see some sights etc...!

January is a great time to visit. For those of us who live here it is cold but that generally means temperatures in the high teens on the coldest days!

There's loads to do but much of it depends on your budget!

Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Atlantis both have water parks attached and are at the right end of town for the Ski slope at Mall of the Emirates. There are hotels around Burj Khalifa too but without the beach access. there are lots of companies which offer dune bashing and trips out to a desert camp. If you're looking for more low key, take a taxi to Kite Beach where there's a new running track and cafes and you can hire kayaks and paddle boards. If you want to take a trip up Burj Khalifa, make sure you book in advance as it is much cheaper.

If you give an idea of what your kids are into I try to come up with options to suit! ??

Fabulous in Feb, however bit cold for those of us who live here ;-) plenty of vouchers available for the water parks. Fountains at Dubai mall are great, and if you get to the mall just before 9.30 am (shops open at 10) you will see the water start over the indoor fountains/ sculpture of the pearl divers.
Desert safaris are great fun, Ds friends from the UK were mega impressed when we sent them of in a hummer for their desert safari. Sky dive Dubai is great, they are too young but it's a great place to sit and watch the sun go down and all the sky divers practicing their drops less than 100m away.

Where to stay depends on your budget. Premier Inn costs from £38 a night, Jumeirah from £248 a night. You do get 'free' access to Wild Wadi water park.
We always go cheap and use the £200 saving to live it up with experiences. Think about hiring a car too, even though the trains are good, there's nothing like the freedom of your own transport. Petrol is very cheap!
You might like the Wadi Adventure - it's in Al Ain about 90 mins from Dubai - wild water rafting!

Agree nice time to go, providing you are not expecting constant sunshine and sunbathing temperatures - although if you are lucky you will get them.

I think January is cold here ?? But it's really not. We were at wild wadi on the 1st January this year and it was fabulous.
Evenings get cool (by which I mean 16 degrees!) but all the restaurants have patio heaters and it's actually a perfect time to eat outside.
