Moving back to UK from Dubai, needs to be somewhere on Victoria line and close to heathrow/gatwick airports! Safe, good amenities, good schools, lots to do, shopping, restaurants, pubs and bars ! Maximum 45 min commute to victoria and frequent trains. Any suggestions ? Thanks. Xxx

Try Horley or around. It has great transport links - 45 mins to Vic, right next to gatwick (but not overflown) and good motorways.

Horley itself is a town of about 22000, has library, pool, good schools. Towns around like Horsham, crawley, east grinstead, brighton have restaurants, clubs etc.

650K will buy you a 5bed detached house with good grounds. It's a nice budget! With that you could even go to Guildford or Brighton itself.

Horley would meet your basic criteria and has plenty of property available as the area is expanding fast. However if you want a more traditional high street with a café culture you could look at Reigate (although less frequent direct connection to London and hotter property market), Oxted, Dorking, East Grinstead or Ashtead/Leatherhead, or even stray into Mid Sussex such as Haywards Heath and its surrounding villages. All easily within a 20-30 minute drive of Gatwick.

Banstead? Nice high street, no train station but a 5 minute drive to Sutton for a 30 min journey into Victoria.

I used to live in Battersea, travelling through Victoria each day. It took me 30 mins from home to get on the victoria line. (10 mins walk to station - I lived close. 1 min wait for train, 9 mins on train and 10 mins walk & queue to get on Victoria line).

So, to get out of London to Surrey, you will need a fast train. Richmond (I know that's not Surrey) or Surbiton?

Epsom? 35/40 mins to victoria, also 35 to waterloo to give you options if the victoria trains are up the spout. Good schools both primary and secondary, nice town, easy access to both heathrow and gatwick (35 mins in the early morning/late evening which is when I do most of my flying!), close to kingston for big shopping. Late night trains make nights out in London easy too. Your budget would get a nice 4 bed within a short cycle of the station, or a smaller property in walking distance.
