French summer camps

Hoping some of the French mumsnetters can help!

We're spending a few weeks on France this summer and want to put DCs (4 and 5) in some form of (nonresidential) summer camp for about a week of it (mainly to boost their French).

What do you call this sort of thing in French? How would I even start looking for something - is google my friend here? Is there any general website or is it all very localized? It's Franche-Compte but really looking for where to start looking rather than specific recommendations.

Thanks!

Aren't they called a club des jeune? Club mickey is one i've seen on holiday (possibly in the 80s...Blush).

I presume your children already speak fronch, otherwise it will be an overwhelming and confusing few days for them imo.

Contact the Centre de Loisirs in the commune you're staying in. They organise activities for local kids though I have no idea if that extends to visitors on holiday. Worth asking though. Also the local office de tourisme should be able to help. They will speak English too, if you don't speak French.

My kids do speak French (I'm not that mean) but it's rusty. We're buying a house in the commune but may not own it by the summer (family purchase) so hoping the kids may also make some friends (and it'll give us some space to paint). Can't find a Centre de Loisires online but will get DH (the French speaker) to call the tourist office. Great idea.

Thanks for the help!

Have sent my DCs to ' center de loisirs' in three different towns/villages and it has always been the mairie that organized them.
