Braces in France

DD, who's 9, has just got braces but I'm a bit confused about the financing of them.

Does the state pay 70%, which will be automatically refunded to me through the carte vitale?

Has anyone had any experience of DCs with braces in France and, if so, did you have to pay from your own pocket after the state refund and whatever your mutuelle gave?

Thank you!

Your son's braces will be funded mostly by the Security Sociale - about 70% sounds right. Your mutual will then pay a proportion or all the rest depending on the agreement you have.

Your orthodontist should give you a devis which you send to the Security Sociale for agreement. After that you pay the orthodontist and they scan your Carte Vitale which triggers your reimbursements. Normally the Secu then contact your Mutual who then pay their part.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks hatty - it seems that our mutuele will cover the rest so that's good.
